We Must Connect

We Must Connect

“I try to avoid naming anything. And I try to avoid making too much sense, and I try to say things a bit differently every time and to mix it up. And I’ll make points that you can’t put together. I do that quite deliberately because I don’t want the things I’m thinking or working on to become an ideology or a brand, or something that people can use as a name… you’ve got to avoid that packaging and repackaging of ideas and let these things be free-range.” – Tyson Yunkaporta

In his book, Sand Talk, Yunkaporta talks about the systems observed by Indigenous Australians, and how identifying the patterns of creation can help us connect more deeply with our world. He looks at Western knowledge practices with an Indigenous lens and gives us a bit of an idea as to where we went wrong. He argues that we have to co-create sustainable systems collectively and that we can each play an important role as an agent of sustainable change. According to Yunkaporta, we must diversify, connect, interact, and adapt. But we can’t do it alone.
