Be Water - Bruce Lee
Bruce Lee is perhaps best known as a martial artist. But he was also a deep reader and a philosopher. He said his martial arts were just one part of his pursuit of truth. As a college student, he studied philosophy. He frequently made insightful observations rooted in Buddhist or Taoist thought. Lee’s famous instruction “Be water, my friend” reveals his Taoist inclination – water is a common Taoist metaphor. Bruce Lee was a student, and he drew from many schools of thought and martial arts’ practices in order to achieve the growth and formlessness he believed in.
