There are a lot of ideas tossed around about how the world works. One set of ideas we particularly like is Taoism, the ancient Chinese philosophy and religion. Taoism advocates for harmony with the world’s natural movements. The word Tao means way. In Taoism, the way is both how the world is as well as its organic process of change. The way is the spontaneous expression of being, moment to moment. Taoism suggests that people align themselves with this change. An important concept in Taoism is wu wei. Wu wei means consciously harmonious action. It is placing your will with the world as opposed to against it. With as much strife and discord as there is in the world, Taoism’s message of harmonious action is a powerful one.
